Formed in Surrey in 1972, the Jam were Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton, Rick Buckler and Steve Brookes. Although prior to this there were many line ups with various friends from school.

The Jam released 1 live album and 6 albums before splitting in December 1982, leading Paul Weller to form The Style Council as well as a remarkable solo career.

During their stint they achieved 18 consecutive top 40 singles between 1977 (their debut single) and 1982.
