A British rock band formed in 1970, with the classic and most successful line-up comprising Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon. Queen’s first 2 albums struggled to make great impact, but it was the albums “Sheer Heart Attack” and “A Night at the Opera” that gave them international success.

The single “Bohemian Rhapsody” stayed at Number 1 for 9 weeks in the UK and popularised the music video. Their 1977 album “News of the World” contained “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions” both commonly used at sporting events today.

By 1980, Queen were one of the largest rock bands in the world, with albums “The Works” and “A Kind of Magic” proving huge hits practically everywhere. The anthemic “I Want It All” became a rallying cry for the anti-apartheid movement of the late 1980s. The band is unusual in having all four members writing individually, and each creating hit singles. Taylor was the last member to achieve a hit, penning “Radio Ga Ga” in 1984.

Mercury died in 1991 and Deacon retired in ’97, but May and Taylor continued to produce and perform. Having released 18 No.1 albums, 10 No.1 DVDs and around 200 million record sales, Queen received the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award and go down in history as one of the world’s greatest rock groups.
